The first of a great bunch of options from Canon is the Canon Ixus 860 IS. As the name suggests it is a very welcome upgrade to the Ixus 850 IS, not because the previous model needed upgrading, but more so because the 850 was such a fantastic camera. The 860 IS has been improved slightly with 8 mega pixels compared to 7.1 mega pixels and has a larger LCD screen at 3 inches rather than the previous 2.5 inches. Other features include a DIGIC III Image Processor, Optical Image Stabilizer and a 3.8x optical zoom. 5 Tips For Taking Digital Photography From the Airplane

Have you ever looked out of the window of an airplane? Now you would wonder why I am asking this strange question. Have you looked out of an airplane window and remarked about the beauty. Have you ever wanted to capture those moments? Well now you can capture those memories. Here are a few tips for taking digital photography form the airplane.
A common mistake that people make when taking shots from the camera is to put the lens of the camera right against the window pane of the airplane. We normally do this hoping that it will cut down on the reflections. People also do this to take a steady shot. Now, resting your camera on the window pane might help you to decrease the reflection but it will never help in taking a steady shot. If you rest the camera on window pane the camera will shake a lot more owing to the vibrations of the airplane.
If you are using a DSLR with fitted lens what you can do is that attach the lens hood to the lens. This way you will get closer to the window without really touching it. This is the best strategy to take a beautiful picture. Now, use your free hand to cup the lens, this way you will be able to protect it from the reflections. Now the best way to take an aerial shot is to shoot from an open window from a proper altitude. But since most of us cannot do it, the next best option is to shoot from the window of an airplane.

When you plan to take a picture from the window of an airplane, switch your camera from the auto focus to the manual focus. The reason is that the camera gets confused when you are shooting through the glass. When you switch to the manual focus mode and lock the focus on the main focal point you will achieve better results.
Windows of the airplane will often ice up or get condensed when you are flying for a long period of time. Therefore, you must make it a point to shoot early. Your shots will be much clearer and better.
If you are looking for the aerial shots of the ground, there will be fewer opportunities when you would be able to do it. Therefore, the key is to be ready for those moments. These opportunities occur when the plane begins to bank off before landing or after taking off. You will get very few opportunities to capture these shots. Therefore, always be ready to shot at the right moment.
Always turn off the flash when you shoot from an airplane. The reason is that a flash will not be of any help. An in-built flash will only work for a few meters and will aggravate the problem of reflection.
There are times when the scene outside the airplane is just breathtaking. These are the scenes that you will never want to miss. But after you have captured these scenes you would really feel that they do nothing to inspire you. When shooting from airplane look for a main subject that will bring light on your photograph.

What is the Process for Using Digital Backgrounds?
Basically, you take a picture of your subject and remove or extract them from the background with photo editing software such as Photoshop, then paste them onto a new digital background of your choice. The point to consider is the extraction becomes easier when the subject is not wearing the same color as the color as the background. For instance, if you are using a green chromakey screen, then you would want to avoid having your subject wear any clothing that is the same shade of green as your screen. The same goes for blue screens or a white wall or muslin.
How Long do Extractions Take?
If the picture of the subject was taken in front of a chromakey screen or white wall, then extractions are usually completed in less than five minutes.
Additional Benefit
An additional benefit when working with backgrounds is that it is a low cost way for a person to experiment with portrait photography without the large expense of purchasing custom made muslins which can cost over five hundred dollars in some cases. Aside from purchasing ready made digital backgrounds, one can easily create their own with either their camera or Photoshop.

Digital Photography Shots Worth Capturing in New York City

It would not be easy to write an article on digital photography without mentioning New York City at some stage along the way. If its great digital photography shots that you want then NYC has a way of throwing up the unexpected and giving you some great capture moments.
If your looking for the real hustle and bustle shots while visiting, there is one location that I can recommend for this digital photography shot. It has to be Times Square on 42nd street. You have the workers, tourists, cyclists, taxis and best of all the lights. You could spend hours here capturing the different crowds, using different angles and locations and playing with the different modes on your camera. Remember to take lots of shots using the different modes settings on your camera as you can always delete the shots you don’t want.
If your looking for a quiet, calm and peaceful setting for capturing some shots then why not try Central Park. This large park has some great locations for capturing all types of different digital photography shots. If its not some of the impressive buildings surrounding it that captures you then you can find families out strolling, cyclists and roller skaters whizzing along side by side and even squirrels and birds moving around the park.
Further up in the park you have some lakes with ducks and even one lake where you can rent out a rowing boat, from which you can get some great photographs.
Well the last point or aspect that I will mention in this article is New York Cities sheer size and building height. There is no way that any photograph collection would be complete without visiting the top of some of the tallest buildings in the city.
The one I recommend is of course the Empire State Building. From the top of this building you get a 360 degree panoramic view and it is quite impressive.
It is worth knowing before you go that the earlier in the morning you arrive on top of this building then the better it will be for you getting the shots that you want. It does get crowded with people and everyone is trying hard to capture that perfect picture.
Hopefully these few insights will help you to capture that great digital photography shot if you do at some stage visit New York City. I could write all day about others but these three locations will offer you some great photograph opportunities.

Here I will layout a few basic digital photography tips that will help most beginners start off in the world of digital photography. Digital photography itself can be a big step forward from the old style photography which some people would know. Hopefully these few tips will help you to feel at home with your new camera.
Firstly before starting off always read your digital cameras user manual, this sounds stupid but its surprising to know that most people will throw theirs out and never read it. The users manual will tell you all you need to know about the camera itself and the functions and different settings available on the camera. Most importantly it will tell you how long to charge your camera battery before you use the camera at all. Sometimes if the battery is not charged for the correct period at the start you will never get the proper life time from the battery.
Another note I would like to add on the battery issue is never leave your camera lying for long periods with the battery still in it. If its not in use for long periods then remove the battery. Don’t take the risk of damage.
Secondly if your in a town or city why not look around and see if you a have a camera club near by where you live. Even if there is a local college in the area they may have a camera club. It will definitely help to be able to ask people questions one to one and get peoples views and opinions. Sometimes they will have talks or competitions which will give you new ideas and you will learn to use your camera in different ways.
Learning the basics of camera use is very important because a digital camera can be expensive depending on the camera specification. There’s not much point paying big money for a high specification camera when you dont know what most of the camera settings are for.
When you have read the users manual and properly charged and installed the battery, your ready to start taking photographs. At this stage a lot of new digital photographers will just start clicking away. But its the same as all photography you must hold your camera steady and push the shoot button gently.
Sometimes digital cameras can be small and feel very light when your handling them, but you must still hold them steady when taking photographs. There’s no point in having a one off picture opportunity only to see later that the picture has been shaken. This will not be as important with buildings or landscape photographs as you can take them over a few times and just delete the ones you don’t want.
